3 WAYS TO WEAR IT: OVERSIZED BLAZER

Happy Sunday guys! In this post I am showing you how to style one of this season’s most popular items in multiple ways: an oversized blazer!

LOOK 1: Layered over a dress

201905116676353028218462122.jpg20190511689484701370316071.jpg201905113247524259105478673.jpg20190511121264135268452177.jpg201905115787906851523757523.jpg

For my first outfit I’m showing you how you can use it to add an extra layer over a dress. The light colour of this blazer was just calling for some white so I chose to wear it with this cute summer dress. The dress is plain besides the fun lace-up waist that adds an extra detail. I added my platform white sandals to match the dress and it created an adorable look for spring! Adding a blazer to a dress like this is great for the spring when it’s getting warmer but not quite hot enough to wear the dress on its own yet.

LOOK 2: With jeans & a T-shirt

201905114227831084157997816.jpg201905111414922852622177648.jpg20190511791555348209714681.jpgIMG_20190512_000959_725.jpg

In this second outfit I’m showing you how a blazer like this can just as easily be dressed down as it can be dressed up. Again, because the blazer is light-coloured I opted for a light pair of denim and a white T-shirt. Both of these pieces add really fun texture and detail to the look with the distress on the jeans and the graphic on the shirt. For my accessories, I could have definitely finished it off with a pair of converse sneakers but I felt like making it a bit more feminine. To do this, I wore my pink point-toe heels and added a pearl barrette to my hair.

LOOK 3: Adding a belt

201905111050673103244981244.jpg201905117899898249368469772.jpg201905115619321648477207903.jpg201905115153382633713475904.jpg201905116400257502128755760.jpg201905112100203994802022939.jpg

For my final look, I took advantage of the oversize of the blazer and used it as a shirt on its own. I added this belt to give it an extra edge and detail and to create this trendy look. I let the accessories take the focus and just added a simple pair of black leggings for my pants. These cat-eye sunnies are very chic and added to the look I was going for with this outfit so they were perfect. To finish, I kept my shoes simple and just wore these plain white sneakers.

Which look was your favourite? How do you style an oversized blazer? Let me know in the comments!

As soon as I saw this dress, I was obsessed. I love everything about it: the mix of prints, the length, the slightly puffed sleeve. And the cherry on top is that it’s so comfortable!

My favourite way to style prints like these is to add colour! I think the best outfits are ones that have fun prints with a pop of colour. So to create this effect, my yellow belt seemed like the perfect option.

When it came to the shoes, I didn’t want something too flashy but still a shoe that would add a fun detail. These black lace up flats were just what I needed.

For my purse, I went with my black pearl one because it seemed to be the perfect match for the polka dots on this dress.

And finally, I added one last accessory in my hair with this adorable pearl barrette. Hair clips are the biggest hair trend right now and I absolutely love it. There are so many options to choose from and it’s such a fun detail to add to any outfit.

COZY & GIRLY

_DSC1491 (2)

One of the (few) good things that come out of the coldest months of the year is being able to get warm and cozy with sweaters. When the sweater is both super soft and the prettiest pink, there’s just no way to resist. This pink treasure has been my favourite sweater this season and one I just never want to take off because it is so comfortable.

_DSC1514 (2)_DSC1476 (2)

Because it’s such a cute pink, I thought it would be perfect matched with a skirt. When I have a solid colour piece I love to pair it with a fun pattern to create the perfect balance, and this polka dot skirt was exactly the right mix of fun and girly. This skirt is also super comfortable and has been such an exciting addition to my wardrobe because it’s been so fun seeing how I can mix and match it.

_DSC1478 (2)

Finally, to finish off the look I kept it simple. Firstly I added this pink bag to match the sweater, then I added some neutral details with this little necklace and my faux leather booties.

_DSC1513 (2)_DSC1502 (2)_DSC1479 (2)

As much as I have been enjoying this sweater, it seems that spring is finally arriving and I’ve gotta say I am excited to ditch the sweater for pretty floral dresses again! I will get my final wears of out my sweaters until I gladly switch them out for short sleeves.

A TRENDY LOOK

DSC_1832

Trends are what run the fashion world.

Once the designers and brands announce the newest “it” piece, it’ll be seen everywhere–until the next biggest thing hits the stores. While some fashionistas do prefer to opt out of running after the trends choosing instead a closet full of classic pieces, I like the never ending chase of the hottest new trendy piece. It means there’s always something new and exciting, and that’s what I like about fashion.

DSC_1831DSC_1846DSC_1845

Just like these bell sleeves that have grown large since a couple seasons ago, this pattern that has been all-the-rage, and these exaggerated cat-eye sunglasses that became an instant hit and are now hard to find in stock due to high demand.

DSC_1848DSC_1838

These pieces will probably mean nothing in a year, or two, or three from now but I still enjoy wearing them right now.

I think that as long as you still make the pieces your own, there’s nothing wrong with wearing the pieces everyone one else is. Because I think it’s even more interesting to see each person’s individual take on it–the way they incorporate this mega trend into their own style and personality.

DSC_1875DSC_1850DSC_1864DSC_1847DSC_1855

Fashion is just all about expressing yourself and your own sense of style so have fun with it! After all, like I always say, life is too short to wear boring clothes.

DON’T JUDGE CLOTHES BY ITS LOOK ON THE HANGER

DSC_1809

A remark that I get quite often from people about my clothes is, “I never expected that to look so good on compared to how it looks on the hanger!” And so today’s blog post is to tell you never to judge a piece of clothing before trying it on. Trust me, you’ll thank me for this later. Many of my favourite pieces looked terrible on the hanger.

This dress is an excellent example of this. Sitting there hung up on the rack in the store, it did look quite frumpy and the florals seemed a bit overwhelmed. However, following my own rule, I tried it on anyway and realized I was in love. Once it was on, it fit really nice and looked great once I figured out how best to style it.

DSC_1819DSC_1816DSC_1810DSC_1821
DSC_1818

What this dress needed was (clearly) not anymore prints, but instead some colour. The pattern offers me a few nice colours I can play with, but for this blog I decide to accentuate the red/orange because I had the greatest coat to go pair with it. Adding a full bold coloured coat was the perfect compliment to this dress because it helps tone down the busyness of the floral pattern.

DSC_1792DSC_1793

DSC_1777DSC_1778DSC_1768DSC_1774

I then finished off with a matching purse, and tights with tall boots to add extra warmth.

What do you guys think?

So remember – don’t dismiss items on the rack so quickly, because you are likely missing out on some really great pieces!

ALL ABOUT THE SLEEVES

DSC_1566

Happy Monday!

Today I’m here to talk all about sleeves. Last year, the plain old simple sleeves were gone in an instant, replaced by another style that took up its long reign in the spotlight: the bell sleeves. And while they were fantastic (and still are–so don’t fret, you can still rock your tops from last year), with fashion being as fast as it is, there is now a new star in town.

DSC_1563DSC_1558

This season it’s all about dramatic and over-the-top sleeves. Meaning bell sleeves are still in, but they’re even bigger and better and have made friends up in the spotlight. Sleeves like the ones on the top I’m wearing in this outfit are everything. Look in any fashion forward store and you’ll see a wide range of them. They’re everywhere, and I’m loving it.

DSC_1574

DSC_1571

This top that I’m wearing I especially love because it also has such a strong colour. Red has always been one of my favourite colours to wear because it’s so bright and bold. However, wearing a colour like that means the rest of my outfit can’t be too loud or it will be overwhelming.

Therefore, I styled my top with this black skirt that is cute but simple and my black knee-high boots. At this point I felt I was able to sneak in a bit of extra fun to the outfit, so I added my fishnet tights.

I finished off the look with my matching red handbag and red lip.

What are your favourite sleeves this season?

BRINGING LIGHT TO THE WINTER DARKNESS

DSC_1718

Winter can be a hard time.

Though not every person is affected by it at the same level, I think everyone is familiar with the winter gloom. The cold traps you inside, the days are so short that it seems the sunlight is always fleeting, and the longing for warm days to return just makes the season feel even longer. This can really put some weight on a person’s shoulders. I am one of those people.

There are a few ways to lighten the weight of winter, and today I’m showing you one of those regarding clothing: to dress bright.

DSC_1719DSC_1754DSC_1756DSC_1737

If you’re a person like me whose mood is easily linked with clothing, then I think this will work great for you too. Fall and winter colours are notoriously dark, with lots of burgundy, dark greens, and of course, black. For me, wearing those colours just makes it all too easy to fall into that winter gloom. So instead, I like to stand up to those dark shades by blinding them in brightness.

DSC_1739DSC_1731DSC_1725DSC_1751

This is why I wear bright colours in the winter. On the darkest days, it might be the only bright thing to cling on to–for yourself, but often, for others too. I get a lot of people complimenting my colours, saying it’s uplifting to see this time of year.

DSC_1759

So, if you don’t already have some, I say go out there and buy some winter brights! Wear them with a smile, and if you feel that darkness inside, focus instead on the brightness you’re radiating on the outside.

Fashionably Natalie

MY IDEA OF CASUAL

DSC_1517DSC_1511DSC_1514DSC_1518DSC_1534DSC_1542DSC_1537

Alright, so those who know me–and even those who have just started following me–can easily figure out that I don’t do much of the casual look. I’m a girl who likes to dress up and wear things that are fun and, perhaps at times, even out of the ordinary. But, even I sometimes like to dress casual… Or at least, my version of it.

And this would be it. While the “typical” idea of casual would be something along the lines of a pair of jeans, a sweater and flats; I do it with a twist. I am wearing all of the above, but each piece is just a bit more fun than the average, because it really all comes down to this quote: “Life is too short to wear boring clothes”, am I right?

So, the way I’m wearing casual is with a bright pink (but nonetheless, extremely cozy) sweater, these black jeans that are far from plain thanks to the cool studs on the sides, and finally, these fun matching studded flats.

I accessorized only with my matching pink earrings and pink lip, and I let the outfit do the rest of the talking.

What’s your fun spin on a casual look?

Yours truly,
Fashionably Natalie

LACE-UP LEGGINGS

DSC_1326DSC_1327DSC_1331DSC_1335DSC_1330DSC_1371DSC_1343DSC_1340 (2)DSC_1336

In the world of fashion, we are constantly trying to up our game and step it up to the next level. That’s probably how these leggings came to be designed. First came the lace up tops, then the corset belts, which turned into corset belts on everything, so of course,  with the course of these styles being added onto the market, it seems only natural that these leggings would be the next step. And now for most, these pants likely seem ridiculous, but to a fashion lover like me, they’re fantastic.

I have to say a pair of plain black pants is a must in every girl’s wardrobe as it is an easy style for any top, but the thing is that once you’ve a got a great pair, you don’t really need any more. What’s the fun in multiple pairs of plain black pants? That’s what I think anyway, and so I keep my eyes out for a pair of black pants like these–completely the opposite of plain. I’m really excited about adding these to my wardrobe because now I have the perfect pant to spice up an otherwise safe top.

For this outfit, I chose my long green hoodie. I think this is a great option for these leggings because it is longer, and also because it isn’t too loud that it competes with the pants but rather, compliments it instead while adding the colour the outfit needs. I added a belt to make the sweater more flattering as it does fit more lose and doesn’t have any natural fit to it.

To finish up the look, I added my leather booties and my bow handbag to add some neutral colour.

What do you guys think of the lace-up leggings? How would you style them?

Yours truly,
Fashionably Natalie

3 WAYS TO WEAR IT: OVER-SIZED SWEATER

Hey guys! Happy Monday!

Alright, so I’ve done a few 3 Ways to Wear it now, and I hope you guys have been liking them as much as I do. I think it’s a great way to create some inspiration for re-wearing pieces. We can probably all agree that it’s no fun having a sole way to style a piece, because that means it’ll always look the same. And since most of us don’t particularly enjoy wearing the same thing every day, that means that piece won’t see light as much. Therefore I think an important tool to have is to know how to style an item different ways, and here comes my posts to give you ideas! So read on and keep an eye out for more of these to give you the tools to ensure every piece in your closet gets its rightful time in the light.

For this post, I chose the piece that has likely been the most purchased item in the last couple months: a sweater! And more specifically, an over-sized sweater. These are much desired for its coziness, however, they can be so bulky they become hard to style and so they were the perfect option for this post.

Scroll down to see how I styled mine!

1)

Sweater dress with over-the-knee boots – Perfect for weekend brunch

DSC_1376DSC_1378DSC_1384DSC_1428DSC_1391DSC_1390

In this first style, I’m wearing the sweater as a dress to create a look that’s romantic, feminine and just a little sexy. The over-the-knee boots are the perfect choice to pair with a sweater dress because 1) it’s getting too cold for bare legs, so these cover up most of your skin, 2) this combo is arguably the epitome of fall fashion and finally 3) when you see them together, there’s just no discussion to be made because it’s a fact that these two are a match made in heaven.

Since my sweater is cream, I had a range of options for colours, but I decided to stay simple with these grey beauties. They’re special because they lace up in the back which makes them just that much better. And to finish, I added this bag that was the perfect amount of colour that doesn’t scream too loud but added what was needed.

2)

A little dressier & a little funkier Perfect for a day outing with the girls
DSC_1434DSC_1436DSC_1444DSC_1447DSC_1452DSC_1460

For the second outfit, I added some pants and heels to create a look that’s girly and fashion-forward. To create this style, choose a pair of pants that’s fun and can grab the attention. Once you have that, pick out a pair of girly shoes to match. Heels (especially pointy-toed) are a great option because they help make your legs look longer and therefore reduce the look of bulkiness that the sweater brings, leaving it at a happy cozy. Finish off the look with a cute bag! (Extra advice: pearls are all the rage this season, so feel free to use this as your excuse to rock it)

Sweater: H&M / Pants: Marshall's / Shoes: Zara / Bag: Aldo

3)

Totally casual – Perfect for a Saturday at the market

DSC_1477DSC_1483DSC_1481DSC_1493DSC_1503

My final look is completely casual for an effortless comfortable result. I’ve brought out my favourite pair of jeans and just tucked in the sweater to give it more shape. My heels have been swapped out for a comfortable pair of loafers. Since I love to be extra, mine cheetah-print plain because an extra edge to the outfit. However, black or any type of flats would work fine as well. Add a cute cross-body bag, a dark lip and you’re ready to enjoy a beautiful fall day outside.

That’s it for today, hope you guys loved this post and got inspired to take another look in your closets!
